11B Questions, Questions, Questions

 Good Questions:

1)   What are ways we can cultivate more creativity? How can this be important looking for the future? From Kristen Gay http://ldfsjdkfsj.blogspot.com

2)         Out of all the inventions which ones do you think could make it onto the market and what role would it have to the consumer? From Chris Emerson http://collegeishere.blogspot.com

3)   In the article, "A Short Lesson In Perspective" the author speaks about the "overnight-test". What is your take on this test? Do you believe it's an overall good tool or not? Provide evidence from the article to support your answer. From Samantha Monaco http://samanthamonaco.blogspot.com

Question number one is good because it is a what is the purpose of x? Why is it important? Analysis/evaluation/application This type of question is good because not only are there many options for answers to this question but you can think about yourself too. This type of question also would also be seen on a blog perhaps along with  few other questions.

Question number 2 is a which one is better question. This question can sometimes be thought of as a high school question. But since what role would it have to the consumer is also in the question it adds a little bit more to it.  Without that part this question would not be as good as it is.

Lastly question number three which I personally believe is the best out of all of these three questions (very good job Sam) is one of those questions where you have to analyze an entire article to answer the question. You also need information from the article to back up your statements. This question makes you really think about the information you read about. Overall this question is very good because it just is. That is honestly all I can think about the question its just good.

11I Going to the writing center!

This past Tuesday I went to the writing center for the first time. I was having a hard time understanding everything my english professor wrote on my essay so I decided to go there for extra help. The people who work in the writing center are so amazing. They explained everything in a way that I understood. That night when I went to edit my essay on I had a lot more confidence while writing. Going to the writing center made me so much more confident as a student. I think also if we had not gone on our little hunt to see where it was that I never would have found it and used it. Thank you Ashley for showing the INQ class around southern without you I’d still be struggling to write that essay.

11A INQ Questions

Questions

1.     Which innovation do you believe would be the most effective and why?
2.     Have you ever had a eureka moment? What was it? Did it change your thinking?
3.     Without the invention of the computer, do you believe we would be as creative as we are? Why or why not? Explain your reasons.
4.     Why do children have such unconscious creativity? Can we teach adults to be creative in that sense? Why or why not?

The question I feel is the strongest out of all of these questions would be question number three: Without the invention of the computer, do you believe we would be as creative as we are? Why or why not? Explain your reasons. This question is an opinion question but it can be backed up with a lot of different information from an article. Without having information from the readings you would not have concrete evidence to answer this question in the proper format.

Here is my answer to question number three:
I believe that without the invention of the computer we would be much more creative. We spend a lot of our lives sitting in front of a screen rather than embracing our creativity. For many people to be creative they need to go out and the world and find things that inspire them. For example an artist needs inspiration to paint a picture. They may go outside with their canvas and go for a walk to find some inspiration. The outside world is proven to have more outlooks for creativity. Many people believe that the computer is helping us to be creative. I think not also because back in the olden days when there were no computers people were a lot more creative than they are now. Many more people were inspired by the outside world. Also there was a lot more traveling done for inspiration.

10V Creativity Is Key

Creativity is something I can't even really define for you. It is so much more than this one little world. Creativity is my whole entire life. I do everything I do because of how creative I am. The definition of creativity is the ability to transform and think of things in a way outside of the box. I do this all of the time. Even now sitting here I am being creative and writing this blog.

10A Midterm Response

My topic was the sense of Southern community. The video was a bit over five minutes long, posted on-time. I did not fulfill all the interview requirements because I did not interview two faculty members, however, I interviewed over five students. There is not a concrete beginning, middle and end, however formatted in a ‘question and answer’ format with a title panel in the beginning.
Not using iMovie previous to this project, many technical difficulties were faced that needed to be overcame. However, by going to the library and consulting other mac users, I was able to learn how iMovie works.
I used a creative approach to keep the audience interested. With the format of the video as it is, it keeps viewers engaged through comedic and informative interviews. The thing that makes my video stand out I feel is how I have many different perspectives from many different people. I don’t have just one long rambling interview  about my topic. I have little blurbs of humor. Within the blurbs of humor there is information for people to still learn about our campus and the sense of community we have here.

Overall I think my project deserves a solid C maybe even a C+. I honestly could have done so many things in a much more productive way and made my project better. I did do most of the requirements other than interviews from faculty and staff on the topic at hand. I know I don’t deserve less than this though because I did all the other requirements needed in this project. Overall I know this project could have been done in a much better way. I know if I was to do something like this every again that I would need more time and maybe I would have needed to have a different topic to hone in on.

10B Music:My main passion in life

According to my mom I’ve been creative most of my life. The first memory I have of my creativity was from when I was two years old. My mom and I were in a mommy and me music class together. I remember them telling my mom I was an advanced musician and that I could move up from the 2-year-old class to the three-year-old class. My mom was amazed how well and how musical I was so she moved me up to the three year old class. Sadly though I was unable to really participate in the class because that was the time I normally took a nap. So we ended up going back to the 2-year-old class. My mom tells me that, that class was the first thing to bring my creativity out.

My creative ambition in life is to make an album. I don’t care if I personally am singing on an album but I would at least like to write and produce songs with someone. I’ve been writing and singing since I was about 12 years old. I’ve never sung one of the songs I have written out in public though. Singing other peoples songs seems to be much easier for me. I’ve been in vocal groups where other people have written songs and have had no problem singing them. The problem with me performing my songs is that when it comes to my music I am a perfectionist. It is my barrier in life. I’ve had opportunities in my life to perform my own music but I have never manned up and done it. I take voice lessons from Melissa Mulligan and she has had so many opportunities for me to perform my music. I’ve only done it once and it was the scariest experience I’ve had in my entire life. I only sang the song in front of my vocal coach, and her assistants Nick and Chelsea. I hope that I can eventually sing my songs in front of larger crowds.

10I Welcome to the Sociology Department

This past week I went to the department of Sociology. I wanted to talk to the head of the department about changing my major from Communication Disorders to Sociology. I was unable to speak to him that day but I made an appointment to go see him with the secretary of the department Ms. Kate Willette. She was very helpful with explaining what paperwork I needed to bring in for my meeting with him. If anyone needs to go to the Sociology department you will get a lot of information you need for your major. The office of the department is located in Engleman C011 the secretaries email is willettek1@SouthernCT.edu and the phone number you can reach her at is (203) 392-5680. I hope these resources can be useful to those interested in majoring in Sociology.
