When I think of the word freedom I think of being able to do anything I want whenever I want. For me the end of the semester and going home is a freedom. Breaking free from learning from a little while and not having to be focused on school all of the time is freedom. I am free.

16 A,B,I The Final Blog :(
I can’t believe that my first
semester as a college freshman has come to an end. It feels like just yesterday
I was moving in and had no idea what to expect. Now I have completed my first
semester and I feel so accomplished.
As a
college student I have not only learned a lot for school I have learned a lot
about myself. I know what my strengths and weaknesses are as a student and what
I can do to achieve my goals as a student. My biggest challenge this semester
was procrastination. College is very different from high school. In high school
you do most work in the classroom and don’t spend a lot of time doing homework
outside of school. You have the occasional paper to write for class but never
due the next time class is held. In college there is a lot more homework and
many more papers written in one night. In high school I could procrastinate and
get all of the work or at least 90% of the work done. The challenging thing for
me this semester was to not procrastinate and get all of my work done. In
college you cannot hand in stuff late like high school. That was my biggest
challenge this semester and so far I think I’m starting to get the hang of not
procrastinating as much.
I feel like
I have accomplished a lot this semester but there were a few moments that stuck
with me until the end. My first “big achievement” was giving my first
presentation in my professional presentations course. Every freshman has to
take a technical fluency class. Mine ended up being COM 205 professional
presentations. At the beginning of the semester I was so afraid to present in
front of people by myself. I am a performer, I sing, but for me speaking in
front of people is one of the most terrifying things ever. Especially when you
barely know them. I ended up doing it and I got an A on my presentation because
I earned it. I completed my presentation with confidence. Another
accomplishment I had this semester was completing my first English portfolio.
For ENG 110 and ENG 112 you must complete a portfolio for your final grade. It
was a lot of work to do. I had a lot of writing and editing and revising to do.
Once it was finished and I handed the entire portfolio to my professor I felt
amazing. I know now that I can write at a college level and that is an amazing
feeling.
My goals
for next semester are as follows: First off I want to make the Dean’s list and
I am going to try as hard as I possibly can to make it. This first semester I
did slack off a little bit. I definitely did not work to my full ability and I
know that. I could have worked harder. I could have done more work actually.
But this semester I am going to do all of my work. Every word that has to be
written will be. Every math problem will be solved. I will achieve this goal.
My other goal for this semester is to not drop any class. This past semester I
was really having a hard time in Math so I decided to drop it. I was struggling
in my other classes because of it. This semester that is not going to happen. I
am going to get all the help I need to succeed in math class. I will not drop
it again. To make Dean’s list I have to challenge myself and believe that I can
do anything.
I hope what I have learned this first semester in college
can help me in all the semesters to come.

15B It's The Final Countdown!
It’s that time of year I have been
waiting for since I get here; the end of the fall semester. I have been
preparing all semester for what is happening in the last week and a half we
have here before break.
I am lucky enough to only have one
written final this semester. I have this final on Thursday from 3-5. This final
is for my Critical Thinking/Sociology class. To prepare for this final I have
been going back and re-writing my notes in a very neat and tidy order. This
final is open-note so I need my notes to be in absolute perfect shape for the
exam. It need to be in an order in which I can find everything I need to
remember. For open note tests and quizzes I always study also. There are a lot
of people I know who think that because an exam is open note that you do not
need to study. In reality you do though because if you don’t know any of the
information at all you will just be flipping through your notes during the
entire exam looking for every single bit of information that you need.
The other final I have this
semester is a presentation for my communications class. We have already had 3
presentations in my class so far so I know exactly what I have to do to make my
presentation as best as it can be. My presentation is also a group presentation
which I really enjoy because we are all learning from each other. Rather than
just having my own personal presentation that I have to work on by myself I
have a team of me and 4 other people to make the project amazing.
15A Final Video Editing
After watching my video and
everyone else’s, I know exactly what I need to do to have that a video project.
So far I only have the creative aspects of my video. For my video I decided I
wanted to start with a creative aspect to grab my audiences attention. So I
made a skit showing what happens when people are homesick. I wrote out what my
actor should do. I realized to make it a little bit more believable that I
needed it to be more improvisation rather than scripted. After figuring out
exactly what I wanted my actor to do I got my friend Ian who is very good at
improvisation to act everything out. He was very funny about it. Ian added his
own sense of humor, which made the video catch peoples attention even more I
believe.
Now that I have all of the creative
aspects in my video I realized what I need to have all of the college-level
thinking in my video. The first aspect I am going to add to my video is
solutions to homesickness such as calling your family on the phone, skyping
them, going home for the weekend and many more. I will be incorporating music
into this part so its not very boring just reading the slides. The music I have
picked out for this part is “Home” by Michael Buble. This song is about going
home and missing someone which I believe is the perfect choice for this part of
my video.
Lastly I will be adding in a couple
video clips about homesickness and what solutions have helped those,
specifically out of staters. There are many people who go here who do not have
the option to go home as often as the in-staters do. I know that there are even
some people in my building I can talk to which is good.
