1V Inq 101

Before coming to INQ 101 42N on the first day of class, I had absolutely no idea what this class was truly about. I knew that all freshmen had to take the class and that I would not only have INQ with all of them I would also have SOC.
The dictionary definition of inquiry is “an act of asking for information” So my 17 year old girl definition is asking a question about something you don’t understand. So I thought this entire class is just a place you can ask questions. Then I realized that this inquiry class is more than just that. It is a place to connect with my freshman peers. It is a place where I can learn more about myself as a learner. This class is a place for me to learn so much more about myself in general. This class is not just about learning about myself either. It is a place for me to learn about the strengths and weaknesses of my peers so I can exchange ideas with them and learn about how other people work.
The two important words I learned about this week were audience and delivery. Both of these words, were talked about by my English professor. He explained how important it is as a writer to know whom your audience is. He told us without knowing who your audience is that there is no point to writing. He also explained how important the delivery of a piece of writing is. Without the proper delivery the audience won’t understand why you presented what you presented to them.

1I Glow Party!!!!!

On August 29th I got the chance to attend the welcome back dance. The dance ran from 9pm-1am in the andante center ballroom.  I learned about the dance from signs around the school. I also received a flyer while I was eating lunch with my friends so I decided to check it out. I was a little bit unsure of what to expect I mean it was my first experience at a college event. Luckily I had my friends Adriana and Angelica there with me to experience this fun night. The minute I walked in there I new it was going to be a great night there we glow sticks everywhere. The music was pumping and everyone was dancing. All I could think was I don’t need to go out in downtown New Haven to have a good time. I have these amazing people who schedule these events to make my college experience amazing. Without this event I probably would not know as many people as I do now.

1B Blogging is very different from Tumblr.

I consider myself to be a blogger. But definitely not in the same way as the people who blog on blogger do. I  mainly blog on the website tumblr. Tumblr is not only writing it's also videos and music and to me it seemed so much better than blogger. But after looking at Tagan's Kitchen, Productive Flourishing and Rebecca’s Pocket I realized this blog can be so much more than just writing. You can add pages and even customize your blog to show your own personal style.

Every blog needs that thing that differentiates one from another. Your blog could have the same name as ten thousand other peoples blogs but as long as you put that little taste of you in it, you can stand out from the crowd. My blog is unique because I added a bit of my own style to it. For my blog I added my own personal style by adding my favorite photo I have ever taken as a header. This photo really describes me as a person. The picture is of my wall that has a tree with birds and little hearts. The birds represent the freedom I have as a human being. The hearts describe my love for my friends and family. The tree represents the growth I have had throughout my life. So by having this on my blog I believe people can maybe think into how I am.
As a blogger I really want to connect with the people who read my blog, specifically the people in my inquiry class. I want to make connections so I have people that I can talk to about how to improve my writing. Having that connection with other people is the key to success as I write throughout the semester. This blog and my class I feel will truly help me through my freshman year.

1A College: A new life

I remember the day I walked onto the Southern Campus for the first time. I was never sure that this would be the right place for me. I had seen many other colleges before I had applied and got accepted. Then I met all these amazing people and I knew Southern was right for me.
As a college freshman I am accomplishing so much. Getting here and being able to say I made it to college is, an amazing accomplishment. I feel as a college student I have the ability to do so much more than I did in high school.
For me college is a place I feel like I can truly be myself. There isn’t really that constant burden to impress anyone like there was for me in high school. In high school I felt all that anyone cared about was how popular you were even if it meant you had to act like a total idiot. For college you are paying for your education there isn’t as much time to fool around and be stupid. I feel this environment is better for learning than high school was.
As a college freshman I have one goal. Graduate from college with a degree in something I know I want to spend the rest of my life doing. Right now I have an idea of what I want to do with my life. I either want to be a speech pathologist or a special Ed teacher. I am at southern to push myself to achieve this goal. My peers have told me, that these programs are a challenge but I have a goal that I want to achieve. When I want something like this I set my mind to it and I can accomplish it!
I still can't believe I am finally at college. I feel like I've been waiting forever to get here. Now that I am here I am ready for my journey to begin. SCSU CLASS OF 2017! Shout out to Session 1 Group 2!
