6B True Grit

I really connected grit to the concept of mindsets this week. The definition of grit is sticking with things over a longer period of time. There is a grit scale, which determines how likely one would achieve success under challenging circumstances. This idea of project completion and learning made me really think about the types of mindsets we have previously learned about.
There are two types of mindsets we have previously learned about. The first mindset is the fixed mindset. The definition of a fixed mindset is the belief that intelligence is a fixed trait and talent without effort. A person with a fixed mindset believes they cannot learn new things because they are born with a certain amount of knowledge.
The second type of mindset is growth mindset. The definition of a fixed mindset is the belief that intelligence and abilities grow with you. You learn new things all of the time. You have the ability to learn more information that what information you were born with in your brain.
By having these two mindsets your amount of grit can be very different. A person who has the fixed mindset will have a much harder time having a lot of grit. This is because they will have a harder time completing tasks due to the fact that they don’t believe they learn as much from doing certain tasks. When they have a big project due they may end up doing half of the work because they just get bored of the project they are doing.
On the other hand you have a person with a growth mindset. The person with the growth mindset will have a lot more grit. The person with the growth mindset will probably have twice as much grit as the person with the fixed. This is because the person with the growth mindset wants to work as hard as they can to perfect tasks such as major projects. This person with the growth mindset wants to learn so much.
Overall I think that this connection is how the grit scale could have even been created. Without having a certain mindset you won’t have any grit at all.
