8B Sonia Sotomayor Inspiring Young People

I'd rather have respect, not attention.

My Beloved World is a book everyone should read. Not only college students but, people who just love to read. Sonia Sotomayor is an inspiration to many people across the world. I believe this is the main reason why this book was chosen for everyone to read this year.

First year students can learn a lot from Sonia Sotomayor. The first thing they can learn about is perseverance. Over the years Sonia struggled with many things. She was a diabetic and she grew up in a lower-class area of New York. She struggled over the years with family issues too. There was one thing that she never gave up on though and that was her education. She worked as hard as she possibly good to get into college and eventually become a Supreme Court Justice. If it were not for her drive and perseverance she would not be where she is today.

Sonia was also very strong. As a child and as an adult she was made fun of. She was a Hispanic woman living in the 50’s. At that time people who were Hispanic especially women were looked at as unintelligent compared to other people. Many people though because she grew up learning Spanish that she was incapable of being intelligent. She never let those people get the best of her. She was strong and she did not let anybody bring her down. I bet the people who said those things back then are thinking wow we were wrong and look at her now.

Lastly her faith and her will to be faithful to God helped her a lot too. She had someone in her life to pray to and to talk to with any of her problems. Every person should have someone like that they can talk to. Whether its God or a teacher you have, or a friend. Every person on this planet needs someone who believes in him or her.
